GARAGE DOOR ROLLER REPLACEMENT

Garage Door Roller Replacement in Portland Metro

Door stuck? Car trapped? We’ll be there within 3 hours.

Most people don’t think about their garage door rollers until something goes wrong — the door gets loud, starts shaking, or one day just won’t move because a roller cracked apart and jammed the track. Rollers are like the wheels on your car. They wear out, and when they do, they put stress on everything else — your tracks, your hinges, and your opener.

The good news? A full roller replacement is one of the most affordable upgrades you can do, and the difference is immediate. Most customers are surprised how smooth and quiet their door is after we swap them out.

Types of Garage Door Rollers

Nylon Rollers with Bearings (Our Recommendation) – This is what we install on most jobs and what we recommend for every homeowner. Nylon rollers with sealed bearings run quieter, last longer, and don’t rust — which matters in Portland’s wet climate. They reduce stress on your opener and tracks, and the difference in how the door feels is night and day.

Standard Steel Rollers – These come stock on most garage doors. They work, but they’re loud and wear out faster — especially the cheap ones without bearings. When steel rollers start grinding down, they create metal shavings in your tracks and put extra strain on your opener motor.

Steel Rollers with Bearings – A middle ground — stronger than nylon, quieter than standard steel. We use these on heavier commercial doors or oversized residential doors where extra load capacity is needed.

When Do Rollers Need Replacing?

Don’t wait until a roller breaks apart and jams your door. Here are the signs:

  • Door is getting louder — grinding, squeaking, or rattling that didn’t used to be there
  • Door shakes or vibrates when opening or closing
  • Rollers are visibly cracked, chipped, or worn flat
  • Door feels heavy or opener is straining more than usual
  • A roller fell apart and the door is stuck or off track — this is the emergency version

We recommend replacing rollers every 3-5 years depending on how often you use the door. If you use your garage as your main entrance, that’s 8+ cycles a day — your rollers are working hard.

Pricing

A full roller replacement runs $169 to $269 depending on the number of rollers your door has and which type you choose. That covers parts and labor. Most single-car doors have 10 rollers, double-car doors have 12.

This is one of the best value repairs we do. For under $300 you get a quieter door, smoother operation, less wear on your opener, and you extend the life of the whole system.

FAQs About Emergency Garage Door Repair Service

During regular hours, we’re typically at your door within 3 hours of your call. After hours, we can dispatch until 10 PM.

Why This Isn’t a DIY Job

We get it — replacing a roller looks simple. But some rollers are connected to hardware under spring tension, and removing them without knowing the safe sequence can be dangerous. The bottom brackets, especially, should never be touched without the right tools and training.

Beyond safety, getting the wrong roller size or type can cause the door to bind in the tracks or wear unevenly. Our techs handle roller replacements every day and carry every size on the truck — nylon, steel, with and without bearings. The job takes about 30-45 minutes, and we test the door multiple times before we leave to make sure it rolls smoothly and is balanced.

Your door should be the quietest thing in your garage. Let us make that happen.
