Direct-Drive to Torsion Shaft — The 98022 doesn’t use a belt or chain along a ceiling rail. Instead, it mounts beside the garage door and drives the torsion shaft directly through an internal chain and sprocket mechanism with a 63:1 gear reduction. Fewer moving parts, no ceiling hardware, and nothing hanging overhead.
Wall-Mount Design — The opener head measures just 22″ × 7.25″ × 7.5″ and mounts on the wall beside the door. This frees up your entire ceiling — useful if you want overhead storage, a ceiling-mounted car lift, or simply have a garage layout where a ceiling-mount opener isn’t practical.
Ultra-Quiet DC Motor — The medium-duty 12V DC motor runs quietly because there’s no rail vibrating across the ceiling joists. If your bedroom or living space sits above or next to the garage, you’ll notice the difference compared to any ceiling-mount system.
Up to 850 lbs Lift Capacity — The 98022 handles doors up to 850 lbs, 18 feet wide, and 14 feet tall. That covers most residential doors, including oversized and custom-built doors that might exceed what standard ceiling-mount openers handle comfortably.
Battery Backup — Built-in battery backup (485LM) keeps the opener working during power outages. The door opens and closes normally — no need to pull the manual release and lift by hand.
Automatic Garage Door Lock — The included 841LM deadbolts the door automatically every time it closes. No separate lock to install, no extra step to remember.
myQ Smartphone Control — Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connect to the myQ app. Open, close, and monitor your garage door from anywhere. Set up alerts so you know if someone opens the door, and use Timer-to-Close to automatically shut the door after 1, 5, or 10 minutes.
myQ Remote LED Light — The included 827LM LED light puts out 1,500 lumens and operates automatically with the opener. It also connects to the myQ app for manual control.
Smart Control Panel with Motion Detector — The 880LMW wall control includes a motion detector that turns on the opener lights when it senses movement. No fumbling for a switch in a dark garage.
No Cable Tension Monitor Required — Previous LiftMaster wall-mount models required a cable tension monitor, which added complexity and installation time. The 98022 eliminated that entirely. Faster installation, fewer components, less that can go wrong.
