Cost Garage Door Replacement in Portland Metro

Garage Door Replacement & Installation in Portland Metro

A new garage door is one of the biggest visual changes you can make to your home — and one of the best investments. But there are many options, and it’s easy to overspend on features you don’t need or underspend on a door that won’t hold up.

We’ve been installing garage doors across Portland since 2010. We’ll come out, measure, assess your situation, and give you an honest recommendation based on what you actually need—not what costs the most. Free estimates on all new doors, no obligation.

How We Help You Pick the Right Door

The first thing we ask is: what do you use your garage for? If it’s just parking a car, your needs are different than someone who works out there, has a home gym, or keeps the garage heated. We also look at whether you want a solid door or one with glass sections for natural light.

Here’s our honest recommendation: go with a 3-layer insulated door. Not because it’s the most expensive option — the price difference is only a couple of hundred dollars over a 2-layer — but because the product is significantly better. Here’s why:

A non-insulated door is a single sheet of steel. There’s no structure to it, and over time, it dents, flexes, and doesn’t hold up well. A 2-layer door adds insulation backing, which helps, but it’s still open on the back side. A 3-layer door has steel on both the front and back, sandwiching the insulation. That extra layer of steel gives the door real rigidity and durability. It’s quieter, it holds its shape, and it lasts longer.

The most common R-value we install is 9.65, which handles Portland’s climate well — keeping the garage warmer in winter and cooler in summer without over-engineering.

Once your new door is installed, we recommend scheduling annual preventive maintenance to keep everything running smoothly and protect your investment.

Brands We Install

Amarr — Our most-installed brand. Local warehouse in the Portland area, which means faster availability and shorter lead times. Wide selection of styles, colors, and insulation levels. You may have seen their doors at Costco — well-known, US-made, reliable.

C.H.I. (CHI) — US-made with excellent quality. No local warehouse, but they run deliveries every two weeks. CHI has a great online design tool that lets you build out your door with different panel styles, colors, and window options before you commit.

Northwest Door (Hormann) — Local warehouse available. Quality US-made product. We use NWD for specific styles or situations where they’re the best fit for the job.

What Does a New Garage Door Cost?

Pricing depends on door size, insulation level, window options, track configuration, and color. Every job is different, which is why we offer free in-home estimates on all new garage doors. But here are realistic ballpark ranges so you know what to expect:

Single car door (8×7):

OptionPrice Range (Installed)
Non-insulated (1-layer)Starting around $1,500
2-layer insulatedMid-range
3-layer insulated (R-9.65)$1,999 – $3,000
Add premium woodgrain color+ $850

Double car door (16×7):

OptionPrice Range (Installed)
3-layer insulated (R-9.65)$2,950 – $4,500

We also install 9×8 and 16×8 doors, which are common in Portland’s older neighborhoods and newer builds with taller openings. Custom sizes, wood overlay, and oversized doors are quoted on a per-project basis — schedule a free estimate and we’ll measure and price it out for you.

All prices include removal and haul-away of your old door, installation, and hardware.

Need a new opener to go with your new door? We install both the same day — most homeowners bundle the two together, and we usually run a promotion on door and opener packages. Ask about current bundle pricing when you schedule your free estimate.

What to Expect — From Estimate to Installation

  1. Free estimate. We come to your home, measure the opening, review the track configuration, and discuss what you need. No pressure, no obligation.
  2. Pick your door. Based on your budget, style preference, and how you use the garage, we’ll recommend the best option. We’ll show you panel styles, color options, and window configurations.
  3. Order and timeline. If the door is in stock at the local warehouse or in our shop, we can typically install it within a few business days, depending on our schedule. If it needs to be ordered from the manufacturer, expect delivery in 4–6 weeks. We require a 50% deposit when you place an order.
  4. Installation day. Most installations take about 4 hours. We remove your old door, install the new one, set the springs and tracks, and test everything. We haul away the old door so you don’t have to deal with it.

Why Portland Homeowners Choose Us for New Doors

  • 1,300+ five-star reviews — Built on honest work, not sales pressure.
  • Free estimates, no obligation — We measure, recommend, and give you a price. No deposit until you decide.
  • In-house installation crews — No subcontractors. Our guys install the door, set the springs, and make sure everything is right.
  • We remove your old door — Haul-away is included with every installation.
  • We recommend what you need, not what costs the most — We’ll talk you out of spending more if you don’t need to. That 3-layer upgrade is worth the extra couple of hundred. But if you don’t need a premium custom door, we’ll tell you that too.

FAQs about Garage Door Replacement and Installation

If your door is dented, sagging, or damaged beyond a panel swap, it’s usually time to replace it. Same if it’s a non-insulated single-layer door that’s flexing and no longer holding up. Other signs: excessive rust, sections that won’t seal properly, or a door that’s so old that replacement parts aren’t available. We offer free estimates — we’ll look at your door and tell you honestly whether it makes more sense to repair or replace.
